AmaZulu FC coach Arthur Zwane has warned attacking midfielder Athini Maqokola that the expectations on him will be much higher following his impressive debut season with Usuthu. The 21-year-old joined AmaZulu at the start of the 2025/26 campaign and finished with six goals and four assists across all competitions. Maqokola’s standout season earned him four individual awards, including Player of the Season, Most Improved Player, Best Newcomer, and Best Forward. As a reward, he received a Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, which he will keep for three months. Zwane, however, reminded Maqokola that success brings greater responsibility. 'I sat down with him, reminded him where he comes from, and told him it’s not just a club’s project-it’s also his,' Zwane said. The coach emphasized that opponents, teammates, and the game’s observers will now view Maqokola differently, requiring him to handle increased scrutiny. 'The challenge for him now will be bigger than last season,' Zwane added. 'The dynamics of the game mean people will look at him differently, both on and off the field.' Zwane praised Maqokola’s character, calling him a 'good boy' and linking his success to maintaining integrity. 'We also made it because we were good boys,' he said, hinting at the importance of discipline in sustaining his rise.
