AmaZulu FC forward Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya has departed the club to join the Zimbabwe national team ahead of the Warriors’ 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign. The club publicly wished him well for the international break via a social media post.
Ngwenya will link up with the Zimbabwe squad for their opening qualifier against Sierra Leone in El Jadida, Morocco, on Thursday, 24 September. Their second match is against the Democratic Republic of Congo in Harare on 28 September. His call-up comes at a moment of fine form for both player and club. Ngwenya is AmaZulu’s top scorer this season with eight goals in seven Premier Soccer League appearances, a tally that has helped propel the team to third place in the standings with 16 points from seven games.

The club’s announcement on Facebook drew supportive comments from supporters. One fan, TeeNay Chakanyuka, wrote: "thanks AmaZulu FC for believing in this amazing talent.hope to see your team in the top 8 or probably clinch the league this season." Another, Thembani Ngwenya, observed: "I love how football can sometimes transcend nationality, tribe and creed." This sentiment shows the pride AmaZulu supporters are taking in seeing one of their key performers represent his country.
Ngwenya’s recent contributions have been decisive. He scored the only goal in the 1-0 win over Polokwane City last Friday, and also netted the winner against Marumo Gallants the week before. His absence will be felt as AmaZulu look to maintain their three-match winning streak and close the four-point gap to league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.
AmaZulu’s next domestic match is away to Durban City on 16 October. The club will hope their in-form striker returns fit and ready to continue his scoring run in the PSL.
