Arthur Zwane urges AmaZulu to share scoring load beyond Ngwenya

AmaZulu FC head coach Arthur Zwane has told his squad they must stop relying solely on top scorer Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya. The call comes after the Zimbabwean international's early strike earned a 1-0 away win over Polokwane City last Friday, a result that keeps the Durban side third in the Premier Soccer League standings with 16 points from seven games.

Ngwenya netted his eighth goal of the campaign in just the fourth minute at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium, finishing off a move assisted by N. Radebe. It was his second decisive goal in as many matches, having also scored the winner against Marumo Gallants the previous week, a key part of the team's recent form which has seen them win three of their last five matches.

Speaking to media over the weekend, Zwane made his position clear. "We don’t want to rely on him," the former Kaizer Chiefs coach said. "Other players must also play their part." He praised Ngwenya's quality and his potential to challenge for the Golden Boot, but stressed the need to protect the forward from excessive pressure by building a more balanced attack from across the squad.

"We are happy for him, and hopefully he will continue where he left off when we come back from the international break," Zwane added. The coach emphasised that securing results remains the immediate priority, crediting his players for a hard-fought win in a difficult venue where they achieved their primary goal of 90 minutes.

With Ngwenya responsible for eight of the team's ten league goals this season, the need for others to step up is evident as AmaZulu chase leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.
