AmaZulu FC are exploring a move to Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg for future home matches. Chief executive Snenhlanhla Zungu-Ntuli confirmed the club has held talks with stadium officials, with a potential switch on the cards for next season.
Zungu-Ntuli told Ukhozi FM the plan is driven by the club's significant support base in the area. "We had talks with Harry Gwala, we had an intention to play there because we do have a lot of fans in Pietermaritzburg," she said. The stadium has been unused since Royal AM's departure, and the CEO believes local demand for top-flight football is high. "I think even Pietermaritzburg people do want football because it’s been a while since they had it."
The move would see AmaZulu play approximately an hour from their traditional Durban base. It comes as the team enjoys a strong start to the Premier Soccer League campaign under coach Arthur Zwane. They currently sit third in the standings with 16 points from seven games, having won four of their last five matches. The team has scored 15 goals so far this season, averaging over two per game. Striker Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya has been key, leading the scoring charts with eight goals.
AmaZulu will look to continue their form when they host Polokwane City at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, 30 November at 15:30. The proposed stadium shift represents a strategic play to deepen roots in KwaZulu-Natal while capitalising on the team's current momentum.
